My name is Maria Poulima and I am a Post-Doc research at the Department of Economics, University of Athens. I recently obtained my PhD in Economics with specialisation in Political Economy from the Department of Economics at the University of Ioannina. My research interests include Political Economy, Regional Economics, Development and Economic History.Â
Specifically, I focus on the role of political institutions on economic growth, the effects of inequality on taxation and redistributive policies, and the impact of political ideology on fiscal policies. I have also received part of a grant awarded from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (ELIDEK) for participating in "On the Origins of State Capacity and its Implications on the Contemporary Economy and Economic Policy" research project.
I also hold an MSc in International and European Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business and a BSc in Economics from the Department of Economics at University of Peloponnese. In the past, I was awarded a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) as a top-performing undergraduate student.
